OBITUARY: Etta Sophia (Iverson) Nelson, 1882-1962, Mitchell County, Iowa Etta Sophia Iverson Nelson Funeral services for a long-time resident of Mitchell County, Mrs. Oscar Nelson, 80, were held Saturday at Champion Funeral Home in Osage and at Rock Creek Lutheran church. Mrs. Nelson had been in failing health, and had been confined to Mitchell County Memorial hospital in Osage since suffering a stroke six weeks ago. She died last Wednesday. The Rev John Quam, Rock Creek pastor, was in charge of the services. Burial was in the Rock Creek cemetery. Etta Sophia Iverson was born February 19, 1882, in Jack Creek Township, Emmet County, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Iverson. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran church in Wallingford, and became a member of that parish. Her marriage to Oscar B. Nelson of Rudd took place on September 11, 1907. They made their home on the Nelson farm that has remained their home. The Nelsons observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1957. She was active in the Ladies’ Aid at Rock Creek Lutheran church and was a circle member. Surviving are her husband, Oscar, one daughter, Mrs. Alvin (Alma) Kling, one son, Obert, all of Osage, three grandsons, and one brother, John Iverson of Wallingford. Her parents, one granddaughter, Joyce Nelson, and one brother, Edward N. Iverson, preceded her in death. Copyright 2004, Steve Norby
