OBITUARY: Stephen Claire Mueller, 1946-1997, Mitchell County, Iowa [Based on Obituary in Mason City Globe Gazette; July 8, 1997] Stephen Claire Mueller RIVER FALLS, WISCONSIN-- Stephen Claire Mueller, 51, of River Falls, died July 1, 1997, of cancer, at the River Falls Area Hospital. He was born Jan. 6, 1946, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Claire E. Mueller and Elvira M. (Lutz) Mueller. He attended school and graduated from St. Ansgar, Iowa, High School in 1964. He then attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, for a year before entering and graduating from the University of Iowa in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After graduation from college, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and sent to Officer's Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia. Upon graduating from OCS, he went to Korea for 13 months. He was honorably discharged from military active duty in May of 1971. He then worked in Minneapolis for several years before moving to River Falls. On Dec. 29, 1979, Steve married Marlys Maier of River Falls. Steve and Marlys are the parents of two children, Michael and Laura. Steve's career as a salesman included working for Donaldson's Department Store, Chrysler Corporation and the Satterlee Company-School Division. He was employed by Goodheart-Willcox Publishers at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his father, Claire; his stepfather, Julius Kittleson; and aunts and uncles. Survivors include his wife, Marlys; children, Michael and Laura; mother, Elvira (Mueller) Kittleson; brother, William; sisters, Gretta (Jim) Nickerson, Marie (Leonard) Teggatz; an uncle, Elmer Lutz; an aunt, Esther Groth; nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Visitation was held July 2 at Cashman Mortuary in River Falls. The funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m. July 3 at the Luther Memorial Church, River Falls, with Pastor Herb Hoefer officiating. Pallbearers were: Roman Dusek, Jim Hollatz, Dick Hollatz, Tom Hollatz, Bob Krey, Duane O'Neil, Larry Peterson and Gary Thibodeau. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in River Falls.
