OBITUARY: Lauritz H. Norby, 1872-1939, Mitchell County, Iowa Lauritz H. Norby Lauritz H. Norby, son of Halstein and Taran Norby, was born on the old Norby homestead in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa on December 29, 1872. The years of his childhood and youth were spent in the parental home. He received his Christian education in the Rock Creek Lutheran church, where he was baptized and confirmed. Mr. Norby also attended the rural schools of the community and the St.Ansgar seminary. On June 19, 1904 he was united in marriage to Rachel Nubson at the Rock Creek church and immediately after their marriage they located on their farm in Cedar Township. In this wedlock three children were born – Mrs. Edwin (Thelma) Jellum and Mrs. Clifford (Katherine) Larson, both of the Rock Creek community, and Ronald Lauritz, who passed away in infancy. His wife and children and one granddaughter, Loras Mae Jellum, survive him. Two brothers – Carl Norby of this county and Edward Norby of Washburn, ND; and three sisters – Mrs. Mary Lundene and Mrs. N. J. (Thea) Johnson, both of Osage, and Mrs. Elizabeth Klemesrud of Whittier, CA.; and many nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Norby had always been a loyal and active church member, a willing supporter of the work of the church; a kind husband, father, grandfather; and a true friend. Funeral services were conducted by his pastor, the Rev. O.C. Myhre, from the home at 1:00 o’clock and the Rock Creek Lutheran church at 2:00 o’clock, February 20, 1939, with interment being in the Rock Creek cemetery. Copyright 2004, Steve Norby
