OBITUARY: Martha (Gulbrandsen) Olson, 1876-1969, Mitchell County, Iowa Martha Gulbrandsen Olson Funeral services were held Saturday for a lifelong resident of the Osage community, Mrs. Martha Olson, 92. Mrs. Olson died January 15 at Mitchell County Memorial hospital in Osage. She was hospitalized for the first time in her life only two weeks before her death. Rites were held at Our Savior’s Lutheran church with the Rev. Obert Hoven and the Rev. Krishen Persaud, pastors, in charge. C.R. Champion and Sons made the arrangements and burial was in the Osage cemetery. Martha Marie Gulbrandsen was born on August 3, 1876 on a farm near Nora Springs. She was the youngest of six children born to Gulbrand and Anna Wamstad Gulbrandsen. She was educated in the rural schools and attended the Nora Springs seminary. Martin B. Olson and Martha Gulbrandsen were married on November 8, 1894 at the Rock Creek Lutheran church. They established their home on a farm in Floyd County and fifteen years later, moved to the farm in Burr Oak Township northeast of Osage now operated by her son, Allert Olson. They remained on the farm until their retirement to Osage in 1924. Mrs. Olson was baptized and confirmed in the Rock Creek Lutheran church and remained an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran church until her death. Those preceding her in death were her husband, Martin, in 1933, her parents and two sisters. Surviving are her three sons and two daughters: Allert G. of Osage; Myron of Minneapolis, MN; Roy of Palos Verde, CA; Mrs. Louella Brady of Atkinson, NE; and Mrs. Mabel Funk of Osage. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Copyright 2004, Steve Norby
