OBITUARY: Gary Lynn Osmonson, 1946-1997, Mitchell County, Iowa [Based on Obituary in Mason City Globe Gazette; Feb. 20, 1997] Gary Lynn Osmonson ST. ANSGAR, IOWA--Gary Lynn Osmonson, 50, of Nisswa, Minn., formerly of St. Ansgar, died Monday, Feb. 17, 1997, at his home. Funeral services were held on Friday, Feb. 21, at the United Methodist Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Ted Stowers officiating. Burial was in the Woodbury Cemetery in Lyle, Minnesota. The Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, was in charge of arrangements. Gary Lynn Osmonson was born Oct. 4, 1946, in Austin, Minn., the son of Denver and Irma (Pope) Osmonson. He attended grade school in Otranto and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1965, during which time he began working for restaurants in his chosen profession of cooking. He continued schooling at Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, Minn., graduating with a culinary arts degree. He then worked in several restaurants in the Twin Cities area, including the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre. His summers were spent working as a chef in the Drift Wood Resort near Jenkins, Minn., and in 1972, he bought Gabe's in St. Ansgar, which he owned until 1984. It was known for its delicious fish. He opened a restaurant in Jenkins, Minn., known as Ozzie's Fish House in 1985. His last place of employment was the Quarterdeck Restaurant near Nisswa, Minn. He was able to travel in winter to be near the beaches that he loved. He passed away on Feb. 17, 1997, at his home in Nisswa, Minn., at the age of 50 years. He leaves to mourn, his mother, Irma Osmonson, of St. Ansgar; one sister, Ann Hendrickson and her husband, Horace, of Northwood; one brother, Roger and his wife, Sara, of St. Ansgar; two nieces, Jill Hill and her husband, Dave, of Mason City, and Jana Heubsch and her husband, James, of Osage; one great-niece, Hilary Huebsch; three aunts and several cousins.
