                      Joseph Jacob Slaichert Jr.

ST. ANSGAR, IOWA--Joseph Jacob Slaichert Jr., 81, of St. Ansgar, died
Sunday, June 22, 1997, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage,
Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 25, at the St. Ansgar
Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gary Gonnerman officiating. Burial will be
in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.

Joseph was born Aug. 29, 1915, in Mitchell, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife, Luella of St. Ansgar; one daughter, Karen
Heldorfer, Bancroft; two sons, Harlan Slaichert, St. Ansgar, and John
Slaichert, Hampton; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one
sister, Helen Bocelewatz, Kansas City, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

The Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, is in charge of arrangements.
