OBITUARY: Floyd F. Whalen, 1923-1996, Mitchell County, Iowa [From Mason City Globe Gazette, Mason City, Iowa, Dec. 12, 1996 (edited)] Floyd F. Whalen OSAGE, IOWA--Floyd F. Whalen, 73, of Osage, died Tuesday (Dec. 10, 1996) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, with military rites by the Osage VFW Post #7920 and Osage American Legion Post #278. Visitation will be held today at the Champion Funeral Home. Floyd F. Whalen was born April 14, 1923, in Cresco. Survivors include his wife, Eileen, of Osage; five daughters, Lois Freiermuth, Elmwood, Wis.; Kathleen Wencl of Austin, Minn.; Darlene Strouf, Lyle, Minn.; Arlene Gibson of Gilman, Wis., and Lori Wilde, Osage; three sons, Dennis Whalen of Lyle, Minn.; and James Whalen of Winona, Minn.; three sisters, Gladys Bednar of Austin, Minn., Ruth Carolan of Austin, Minn., and Cecelia Martin of Lyle, Minn.; three brothers, Alois Whalen of Rockford, Ill.; Oliver Whalen of Rose Creek, Minn., and Patrick Whalen of Cresco; 24 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
