OBITUARY: Simon Engebretson, c1848-1926, Mitchell County, Iowa SIMON ENGEBRETSON IS DEAD Former Cedar Township Resident Passed Away at Independence Burial at Rock Creek Simon Engebretson was born at Hadeland, Norway, 78 years ago. He came to America when about twenty years of age and located temporarily in the Rock Creek community, this county. Later he bought a farm in Cedar township, on which place he lived for some years. In 1881 he married Miss Martha Dammen of Cedar township. He was brought up in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the Rock Creek Lutheran church while living there. Thirty-two years ago he was taken ill and was moved to the hospital at Independence, in which place he died May 9, 1926, death resulting from apoplexy. The only near relatives surviving him are a daughter, Maud, and a son Edward, both of Osage. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. O.C. Myhre in the Champion undertaking parlors Tuesday at 10 a.m., and interment was in the Rock Creek Lutheran cemetery. Copyright 2005 - Marilyn Oconnor
