OBITUARY: Hertha Fleischer, 1906-1997, Mitchell County, Iowa [Based on Obituary in Mason City Globe Gazette; December 4, 1997] Hertha Fleischer ST. ANSGAR, IOWA-- Hertha Fleishcer, age 91, of Winterset, Iowa, and formerly of St. Ansgar, died on Monday December 1, 1997, at Madison County Memorial Hospital, following a long illness. Funeral services will be on Saturday at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery south of St. Ansgar. Hertha was born on Nov. 11, 1906, in Myrtle, Minnesota, to Paul and Martha (Behl) Fleischer. Hertha's parents died when she was quite young and her brothers and sisters were sent to a Lutheran Orphanage. Hertha worked briefly in Des Moines before moving to Oak Park, Illinois. She was employed by the Federal Railroad Retirement Board for more than 20 years as a switchboard operator, retiring in 1972. Hertha moved to Brooklyn Park, Minn., then to St. Ansgar and later to Austin, Minn. She moved to Winterset two years ago, where she lived at the Country Haven Retirement Home. Hertha is survived by three nieces, three nephews, several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents; two sisters, Adella and Lila; three brothers, Alfred (a past resident of Wells, Minn.), Leonard and Maynard; and one great nephew.
