OBITUARY: John Goplerud, 1900-1947, Mitchell County, Iowa John Goplerud Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 15, 1947 at the Osage Lutheran Church for John H. Goplerud, prominent Mitchell County farmer, who died Saturday as a result of injuries received in an auto accident Saturday morning. The Rev. T.P. Solem was in charge and interment was in the Osage Cemetery. John Harold Goplerud, son of Christopher and Anna Goplerud, was born on the home farm in Rock Township on October 4, 1900. He was baptized and confirmed in the Rock Creek Lutheran Church by Rev. J.A. Urnes. After completing rural school he attended the Cedar Valley Seminary in Osage. On October 20, 1926 he was united in marriage with Mildred Witt, also of Rock Township. The young couple took over the operation of the Goplerud farm, which eventually became their home. Mr. Goplerud was one of the two original salesmen in Mitchell County for Pioneer Hybrid Seed Company. He was an active leader in community matters such as the Farm Bureau, Bond Drive, and Red Cross campaigns. He was present chairman of the Farmer's Cooperative Elevator Company in Osage. He had sung in his church choir for 30 years. Last year he was elected secretary of the St. Ansgar Circuit of the Lutheran Brotherhood. He is survived by his wife; one son, Dean; his mother, Mrs. Anna Goplerud; and two brothers, Chris of St. Ansgar and Gerhard of Osage. His father and an infant son preceded him in death.
