OBITUARY: Halvor J. Halvorson, 1851-1938, Mitchell County, Iowa Halvor J. Halvorson Halvor J. Halvorson was born at Grau, Hadeland, Norway on July 3, 1851. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church of his native land. In October 1874 he was united in marriage to Ragnild Horgen, who survives him. During his time in Norway, he worked for some time at a sawmill and as a mason. In June 1882 he came to America and located in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, IA where he established a home in which he lived until his death. Since coming to this country, besides attending to his farm work he spent a great deal of time at mason work. Of the four children born to his wedlock, the following survive him: Iver, Peter, and Henry, all of this community. Since coming to Cedar Township, Mr. Halvorson had always been an active member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church. He had always enjoyed good health until about two months ago. About nine years ago he became totally blind and was obliged to spend his days at home. He passed away on May 22, 1938. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. O.C. Myhre at Rock Creek Lutheran Church on May 25, 1938. Interment was in the Rock Creek cemetery. Copyright 2005 Steve Norby
