OBITUARY: Ragnhild (Horgen) Halvorson, 1856-1943, Mitchell County, Iowa Ragnhild Horgen Halvorson Mrs. Halvor Halvorson, 87, died at the Ross Woodward home Sunday afternoon, July 11, 1943. Three weeks ago she broke a hip in a fall and due to her extreme age was not able to rally from the shock. She was taken to the Woodward home for care and to be near her doctor. Ragnhild Horgen was born in Norway on November 21, 1856. She was married there to Halvor Halvorson and with her family came to this country as a young woman. On the long trip across the water, her infant daughter, Sophie, died. Mr. and Mrs. Halvorson and three sons came immediately to Mitchell County and settled on a farm in Rock Township. That place had been her home for more than sixty years. Mr. Halvorson died May 22, 1938. Two sons, Henry and Peter, lived with Mrs. Halvorson and operated the farm. Her son Iver, who is married, lives on an adjoining farm. Surviving her are her three sons and two grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Ingeborg Horgen of Osage. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 13 at Champion Funeral Home and the Rock Creek Lutheran Church. Conducting the rites was the Rev. C. Blaine Gunderson, church pastor. Interment was made beside her husband in the Rock Creek cemetery. Copyright 2005 Steve Norby
