OBITUARY: Gunhild (Julia) Haugen, 1865-1927, Mitchell County, Iowa Julia Haugen Gunhild (Julia) Haugen was born in Hedalen Valdres, Norway on April 6, 1865. She was baptized in the church of her native place and confirmed in the Rock Creek Lutheran church. In May 1878, she came with her parents to America and for a short time they made their home with the Knut Klemesrud family. Later her father bought a piece of land and built a home in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, IA where she continued to live until her death. For many years the deceased was engaged in domestic work in different homes in Osage, and later taught the parochial school of the Rock Creek Lutheran congregation. She was an active and exemplary member of her church and Ladies' Aid. She had been in poor health for many years. The last two months she had been almost helpless and required the constant care of her dear ones. The near relatives are: four sisters and a brother: Mrs. John Evenson of Austin, MN, Mrs. Thomas Larson, Mrs. Ole Wahl, and Harold and Nettie Haugen all of this community. There are also two nieces, Mrs. Olvin Moe and Mrs. Kinley Klemesrud, also of this community. Death came to relive her suffering on July 28, 1927. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. O.C. Myhre at the home and then at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church on Sunday, July 31, 1927. Interment was made in the Rock Creek Lutheran cemetery. Copyright 2005, Steve Norby
