OBITUARY: John "Jim" Hungerford, 1930-2005, Mitchell County, Iowa [Based on obituary in the Mitchell County Press-News online, Feb. 16, 2005] John "Jim" Hungerford A Mass of Christian Burial for John "Jim" Hungerford, age 74, of Osage, Iowa, was held on Saturday, February 12, 2005, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with Rev. Mark Reasoner officiating. Burial was at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Osage, with military rites by the Osage V.F.W Post 7920 and the Osage American Legion Post 278. Jim died Thursday February 10, 2005, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage. Jim was born December 26, 1930, in Osage, the son of Roy and Mary (Schloff) Hungerford. He was educated in the Osage Schools and graduated from Osage High School in 1949. After graduation, Jim served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Wilma Bechtum on October 4, 1969 in Osage. He was employed as a meat cutter for 40 years, retiring from Steele's Super Valu in Osage. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, the Osage V.F.W. Post 7920 and the Osage American Legion Post 278. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; by two grandsons, Matthew and Andrew Bechtum; and by two brothers: Jean Hungerford, and Charles Hungerford. He is survived by his wife Wilma Hungerford of Osage; by a son, Loren (Barb) Bechtum of La Crosse, Wisconsin, and their children, Sarah Bechtum, Amy Bechtum, Amanda and her husband Nick Rouch, and by Levi Bechtum; by a sister, Betty DeMar of Minneapolis, Minnesota; by a sister-in-law, Neva Hungerford of Osage; and by many nieces and nephews.
