OBITUARY: Alfred Lawrence Johanson, 1899-1940, Mitchell County, Iowa Alfred Lawrence Johanson Alfred Lawrence Johanson, son of Jens and Ingeborg Gulbrandson Johanson, was born in Rock Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, on July 11, 1899. The days of his youth were spent in the parental home until the death of his parents. Since their death he has made his home with his brother John, and has been working on different farms in the area. The departed brother has never been physically strong for many years, but has been able to work part of the time. Alfred was baptized and confirmed in the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, and also attended the rural schools of this community. The following near relatives survive him: one brother, John, and three sisters, Mrs. Herman (Agnes) Klemesrud, Mrs. C.E. (Nettie) Shoger, and Mrs. Julius (Matilda) Anderson. Nine nephews and nieces also survive. Alfred died while riding his bicycle on Highway #9 on November 24, 1940. A car driven by Gus Fohrman, who was traveling in the same direction, accidentally struck and killed him. The Rev. O.C. Myhre conducted funeral services from the Rock Creek Lutheran Church on November 24, 1940. Interment was made in the Rock Creek cemetery. Copyright 2005 Steve Norby
