OBITUARY: Jens Johanson, 1870-1937, Mitchell County, Iowa Jens Johanson Jens Johanson was born in Beri, Norway on August 27, 1851. He immigrated to the United States in 1870 and located in Osage, IA. After renting farms for several years in the Osage area, he purchased his home place in Rock Township. Here he lived ever since. In 1877 he was married to Ingeborg Gulbrandson. To this marriage eight children were born. His wife and three children have preceded him in death. The last years he has been gradually failing from old age. About Christmas time he contracted a cold and died on January 7, 1937. He leaves to mourn his departure five children: John and Alfred Johanson, Mrs. Herman (Agnes) Klemesrud, Mrs. C.E. (Nettie) Schoger, and Mrs. Julius (Matilda) Anderson, all of this vicinity. Thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren also survive. Mr. Johanson had been a member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church since coming to this community. He lived a very quiet and unassuming life, tending his own affairs, and was respected and honored by all who knew him. Funeral services were held January 9, 1937 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church and burial was made in the church cemetery. Copyright 2005 Steve Norby
