OBITUARY: John Henry Markow, 1880-1979, Mitchell County, Iowa John Henry Markow (St. Ansgar Enterprise, St. Ansgar, Iowa; 8 FEB 1979) Funeral services for John H. Markow, 98, of St. Ansgar, who died at the Mitchell County Memorial hospital February 3, were held February 6 at the Schroeder Funeral Home in St. Ansgar with the Rev. Bruce Wittern, pastor of United Methodist church officiating. John Henry Markow was born August 24, 1880 in Lomira, Wisconsin, the son of John Henry William Markow and Emilia (nee Oldenberg) Markow. He made his home in North Dakota for a few years, and later did construction work at the Great Lakes Training Center in Illinois, and in more recent years in the St. Ansgar and Lyle area. Mr. Markow married Emma Barwind December 12, 1905 in Stacyville, Iowa. One son and two daughters were born to them. He is survived by his son, Leo H. Markow of Des Moines; two daughters, Myrtle Coonradt of Des Moines and Evelyn Roehr of Osage; also several grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, one sister and several grandchildren. Mr. Markow had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Cetner here the past several months. Burial was in the St. Ansgar cemetery with Rev. Wittern in charge of committal services. For non-commercial use only
