OBITUARY: Gustav Olson, 1886-1946, Mitchell County, Iowa Gustav Olson Funeral rites were held for Gustav Olson, 80, who died Sunday night, October 20, 1946 at the Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Iowa, following surgery two weeks before. Mr. Olson had not been ill previously. The Rev. S.O. Sorlien conducted the services at 1:30 on October 24, 1946 at Champion Funeral Home and at 2:00 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church. Burial was made in the Rock Creek Lutheran cemetery. Gustav Olson, eldest son of John and Gulbjorg Anderson Olson, was born on September 19, 1886 in Rock Township, Mitchell County, Iowa. He received his rural education there. He was baptized and confirmed in the Rock Creek Lutheran Church and has been a life-long member. In 1908 he married Bertina Torblaa and the couple established their first home in Rock Township. In 1919 they moved to Cedar Township where they have since made their home. Three children were born to this union. Mr. Olson was a farmer, director of the Rock Creek creamery, president of the Farmer's Co-operative Elevator of Rudd, IA and an active Farm Bureau member. Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Fred (Gladys) Shoger of Osage; two sons, Olaf and Glenn, both of Osage; three grandchildren; one brother, Julius; two sisters, Mrs. Oscar (Caroline) of Nora Springs and Olga Olson of Osage.
