OBITUARY: Eli Schulze, 1822-1907, Mitchell County, Iowa Mr. Eli Schulze Mr. Eli Schulze died at his home in Brownville Sunday morning, June 16th, 1907. The deceased was born in Adams Co. Pa., Dec. 22, 1822. In September 1850, he was married to Ruby Elkins of Chautaugua County, N.Y. In 1854 he came with his family to Iowa and settled on the farm which was his home at the time of his death. His wife was taken from him in 1905, after which he was tenderly cared for by his children. Of the nine children born to Mr. and Mrs. Schulze, seven are still living, scattered from the old home neighborhood to far away Alaska, so that only three of them were able to be present at the funeral. In early life Mr. Schulze came under the influence of the Universalist faith. Separated for years from his home church on coming west, he did not sit idly down doing nothing for his Master, but joining his efforts with other Christians, doing all he could to help on any good cause. Later he was privileged to unite with his favorite church in Osage, in the faith of which he died, and the last rational words he ever spoke were a prayer. The funeral was largely attended, and was held in the church at Brownville, and the remains were placed beside those of his wife, in the cemetery at that place, Rev. W. S. Ralph conducting the services. Copyright 2005 - Marilyn Oconnor
