OBITUARY: Esther Maakestad Sorose, 1895-1973, Mitchell County, Iowa Esther Maakestad Sorose Funeral services were held in Austin, Minnesota, for a former Osage woman, Mrs. Esther Sorose, 78, who died there after a long illness. Burial was in the Grandview Memorial Gardens at Austin. Esther Maakestad was born July 31, 1895 in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Emelia Nelson Maakestad. She attended the rural schools of her area and the Cedar Valley seminary in Osage. She was married to Odin M. Sorose on June 6, 1917. Mr. Sorose died in July 1967. They farmed in the Osage area until retiring to Austin. Mrs. Sorose had been in failing health for several months, and was confined to St. Mark's Lutheran Home in Austin. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Clarence (Marilyn) Van Grevenhof of Austin, MN; two grandsons; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Gladys) Klemesrud and Mrs. Kenneth (Nora) Klemesrud of Osage; three brothers, John and Edwin Maakestad of Osage; Leonard Maakestad of Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews.
