OBITUARY: Donna Jean (Brandau) Toppin, 1927-1978, Mitchell County, Iowa Donna Jean Brandau Toppin Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon for Mrs. Elvin Toppin, 50, of rural Rudd, Iowa. Mrs. Toppin died March 28, 1978 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, as a result of a cerebral hemorrhage. She had been ill only two days. Services were held at Eden Presbyterian Church, rural Rudd. The Rev. John Bates, church pastor, and the Rev. Robert Peters, former pastor, were in charge of the rites. Burial was made in the church cemetery. Donna Jean Brandau was born at Rudd on December 22, 1917 to Otto and Hazel (Apel) Brandau. She graduated from Rudd High School. Elvin Toppin and Donna Brandau were united in marriage in September 1950 at Eden Presbyterian Church and they farmed in the Rudd area. She was an active member of the church and its women's organization. She was also junior choir director for two years. Mrs. Toppin was active in the Rockford Country Club and was an officer thereof. Surviving are her husband, Elvin; two sons, Bradley, of Rudd and Mark, of Osage; two granddaughters; her mother, Mrs. Hazel Brandau, of Osage; one sister, Mrs. Bernice Sweeney, of Madison, NJ; and nieces and nephews.
