OBITUARY: John W. Wagner, 1857-1931, Mitchell Co., Iowa John Wagner Died Thursday Morning After Long Illness John Wagner passed away at his farm in Cedar township early Thursday morning, after a lingering illness. Mr. Wagner was born October 10, 1857 in Waunakee, Dane County, Wisconsin, to Peter and Katherine Wagner, but came to Osage at an early age. His farm was located on the picturesque river road to Mitchell, and his pasture on the river bank has been used for years as picnic grounds by folks of the community. Mr. Wagner was very generous and kindly toward his visitors, and gained a wide acquaintance over the county though them. Mr. Wagner's first wife was Mary Tubbs-Packard, a sister of Charles Tubbs. She passed away in 1918 and about ten years ago he was married to Agnes Baker. His wife survives him, also the following brothers and sisters; Frank and Peter of Waseca, Minnesota; Nick, Osage; Mike, Springfield Missouri; Joe, whose present whereabouts is unknown; Annie Wagner and Mrs. Katherine Kluff, of Chicago. Relatives and friends from out-of town who attended the funeral included his brother, Frank, and son Morris, of Waseca; nieces, Mrs. Malvor Bjorgo, Kensett; Tillie Anderson and son of Northwood; and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Schmidt and baby, Marilyn; Prell Baker, Gladys Schmidt, all of Spring Valley, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. H. Brimacomb and William Dankert, Austin Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. John Kaktor, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Faktor all of Mason City; Henry Michalek and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Nora Hunchis, Fred and Dorothy, all of Plymouth: Henry Urbatch and family. Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Cobeen and Mary Jane, of Manly; Ed Glassel, Mrs. Wesley Graper, Mrs. Leo Kirchgatter, Mrs. H. Kirchgatter, Leon Prell, Mr. and Mrs. John Koci, Pearl and Lowell, Emil Walk and family, of Grafton; Mrs. Jennie Banjay, New Boston, Illinois; Iris and Russell Prell, of Cumberland, Wisconsin. Funeral services were held at the Sacred Heart church at Osage, in charge of the Rev. J.P. Martin, and burial was made at the Oakwood cemetery, at Mitchell.
