OBITUARY: Ethyl L. (Billington) West, 1902-1997, Mitchell County, Iowa [Based on Obituary in Mason City Globe Gazette; October 18, 1997] Ethyl L. West ST. ANSGAR, IOWA-- Ethyl L. West, age 94, of St. Ansgar, passed away Friday, Oct. 17, 1997, at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar, which she had been content and grateful to call "home" for five years. Funeral services were held on Monday, October 20th, at the St. Ansgar United Methodist Church, with Pastor Ted Stowers officiating. Interment was in the St. Ansgar Cemetery. Ethyl L. (Billington) West was born Nov. 27, 1902, at Winnebago, Minnesota. Her childhood was spent in this area and on Dec. 3, 1911, she was baptized in the Presbyterian Church of Winnebago. Her father was an engineer on the Milwaukee Railroad. On Sept. 18, 1925, she was united in marriage to Charles West of St. Ansgar. She soon became an active member of the Methodist Church, filling many offices in the Woman's Society of Christian Service and United Methodist Women. Mrs. West was also active in community activities. She was the first Brownie scout leader, also the first "helper" when Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Eggleston started a school lunch program. She is survived by cousins, Mrs. Charles Zimmerman, Littleton, Colorado; Don Albertson and his wife, Peggy, of Sarasota, Fla.; two nieces, Mrs. Barbara Ostlund and her husband, Alan, of Annandale, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grayce and Charles Billington; and her husband, Charles. Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, is in charge of arrangements. Copyright 2005, K.L.
