OBITUARY: Andrew Anderson, 1896-1976, Mitchell County, Iowa




                        Rites held for A. Anderson

Funeral rites for Andrew Anderson, 79, a former resident of Mitchell, were
held Monday afternoon at Faith Lutheran church there.  Burial was in the
Oak Grove cemetery there, and military rites were conducted there by the
American Legion memorial squad from St. Ansgar.  The Rev. William Perkins,
Pastor, was in charge and arrangements were by C.R. Champion and Sons.
                          
Mr. Anderson died Dec. 9, [1976] at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in
St. Ansgar, Iowa, where he was confined for the past 31 months.

Andrew Anderson was born Dec. 30, 1896, on a farm in the Rock Creek area,
Mitchell county, the youngest of five children of John and Karen Kieker
Anderson.  He was baptized and confirmed at the Rock Creek church.  He
enlisted in the army Sept. 4, 1918 and served in the medical department
at Camp Dodge.  He was a member of the American Legion and Mitchell county
World War I Barracks.

Ida Seffinga and Mr. Anderson were married March 27, 1920 in Mason City.
He was a retired farmer and carpenter, and after moving to Mitchell, served
that town as mayor for six years.

Survivors include his wife, Ida of St. Ansgar; eight children; Mrs Gladys
Brych of Osage; Mrs. Roy (Katherine) Christensen of Alden, Adeline Beinke
of Mason City, Mrs. Walter (Bernice) Peterson of Glen Burnie, Md., Glen of
Laredo, Tex., Melvin of Ionia, Arnold of Glendale AZ., and Mrs. Marvin
(Darlene) Buckmaster of Denver, Col.; 31 grandchildren, 17 great-grand-
children; and one brother, Julius Anderson of Mason City.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother; two sisters, and
one grandson.
