OBITUARY: J. E. Bishop, c1846-1932, Mitchell Co., Iowa [Mitchell County Press -- June 9, 1932 ] J. E. Bishop, Old Settler of Mitchell County Is Dead Blanche McLaughlin received word Sunday of the death of her uncle, J. E. Bishop of Los Angles, Calif. Mr. Bishop was one of the early settlers in Mitchell county, having come here in 1856 (the year of the land sale) with his parents at the age of 10 years. He grew to manhood in Burr Oak township, later attending school at the Cedar Valley seminary, when it was still located in the courthouse. When a young man he studied law in the office of Cyrus Foreman and after being admitted to the bar he became a partner in law with M. M. Brown. Later he practiced law in North Dakota and continued his profession in Los Angeles, Calif. until a few years ago. He was 87 years of age at the time of his death. Mr. Bishop visited his niece frequently here in Osage, and renewed and made many friends who will be sorry to learn of his passing. Submitted by Marilyn O'Connor 1/19/2006
