OBITUARY: Mr. J.A. Davis, c1836-1895, Mitchell County, Iowa [ Osage News-May 30, 1895 ] Davis, Mr. J. A. A very sudden death occurred in the Third Ward Saturday night. A new comer, Mr. J. A. Davis, with his wife and two children moved to Osage on the 7th of May and rented a house for the purpose of making this their home, but death came like a blighting frost and left a broken family. J. A. Davis was an Englishman by birth and 58 years of age. Since the age of 9 years he lived in this country. He was first married in Madison Wisconsin in 1866 to Elizabeth Bromen. His second marriage occurred at Maquoketa, Iowa, on the 1st of this month. Mr Davis was quite sick the past week but he was a strong, vigorous man. Saturday night he was taken with inflammation of the bowels and died Monday night. The remains were taken to Mazomania, Wisconsin, yesterday for burial. Brief services were held at the house by Rev. E. J. Lockwood of the Methodist church, and members of the A.O.U.W. of which he was a member acted as pall bearers. Mr. Davis left a young son and Mrs. Davis has one daughter. He had been a traveling man for many years, but came here to open a marble shop as we are informed. The blow is a sad one to the wife and children. Copyright 2005 - Marilyn O'Connor
