OBITUARY: George Virgil Dierks, 1920-1983, Mitchell Co., Iowa George V. Dierks Funeral services for George V. Dierks, 62, of St. Ansgar, who died February 24, 1983, at a nursing home in Nora Springs, were held February 28 at First Lutheran Church here, with the Rev. Thomas Hughes officiating. George Virgil Dierks was born July 7, 1920 in Bloomfield, Nebraska. He moved to Iowa with his parents in 1939, and entered the U.S. Army in February 1943 and served during World War II and was honorably discharged in December 1945. On March 12, 1943 he married Elaine Marie Barker, in Denver, Colorado. Seven children were born to them. Mr. Dierks farmed in the St. Ansgar area from 1946 until 1969. He then became an electrician for Cedar Valley Electric Cooperative here, until his retirement in 1977 because of his health. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion, and had previously served as county commander. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, a granddaughter, and a brother. He is survived by his wife, Elaine of St. Ansgar, David and D. Scott of St. Ansgar, and by Eldon (Butch), of Lanhem, Maryland; by two daughters, Mrs. Darrell Hilsman of Rudd, and Mrs. Michael (Lori) Barry of Colesburg; seven grandchildren: Jeannie and John Dierks, Terry and Daniel Hilsman, Jeanna K. Dierks, Chad and Ryan Dierks; two brothers, Paul Dierks of Springfield, Missouri, and Robert Dierks of Grovesprings, Missouri; two sisters, Anna Marie Feley of Northwood and Mary Beane of Miami Springs, Florida....
