OBITUARY: May S. (Scammon) Huntington, 1856-1888, Mitchell Co., Iowa [Osage News November 29, 1888 ] Mrs. Horatio E. Huntington The funeral of Mrs. Horatio E. Huntington, of Annandale, Minnesota, occurred in this city Tuesday afternoon. The corpse accompanied by the bereaved husband arrived on the cars from the north, and was met by a large company of relatives and friends at the depot. The services were held at the Congregational church, Rev. C. B. Moody preaching the discourse. And afterwards the friends proceeded to the last sad act in life's fitful drama, and laid the weary one at rest in the city of the dead. Kind friends who had known her from childhood, assisted in the sad rites, and the comforting aid of all is gratefully remembered by the sorrowing relatives. Mrs. May S. Huntington, daughter of William and Hannah Scammon, late of this county, was born at Saco, Maine, Thanksgiving Day, November 29, 1856 and died of quick consumption at her home in Annandale, Minnesota, Sunday, November 25, 1888. She was the youngest of a family of eight, and for many years was the light and beauty of a happy home. For the greater part of the past twenty years she had lived in this community beloved and respected. She was married at Orchard, Iowa to her now sorely bereaved husband, Horation E. Huntington, October 29, 1884. She was truehearted and very affectionante and of a cheerful and happy disposition, and was dearly beloved by her friends. A little boy, Horton S., survives her as a joy and comfort to the afflicted father and his family. Submitted by Marilyn O'Connor 1/19/2006
