OBITUARY: John P. Metz, 1927-2005, Mitchell Co., Iowa [ Original version Published on www.mcpress.com Nov. 23, 2005] John P. Metz OSAGE, IOWA--Memorial services for John P. Metz, age 78, of Osage, were held, on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, at First United Methodist Church in Osage, with Rev. Dr. J. Samuel Subramanian officiating. Flag presentation was by the Osage V.F.W. Post 7920. John died on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005, at the Faith Home in Osage. John was born July 10, 1927, in Stacyville, Iowa, the son of John Phillip Metz, Sr. and Abbie (Ruesink) Metz. The family moved to Marianna, Florida, where he attended school, and assisted his father in the family business. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in Korea. John P. married June Clyde on August 27, 1949, in Arkansas. They made their home in Osage. He worked as an independent trucker. John P. was a member of the Osage American Legion Post 278, and the Osage V.F.W. Post 7920, where he was a past commander. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Osage. His body was donated to the University of Iowa College of Medicine for scientific purposes. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Viola Angell; a daughter- in-law Janie Metz; and an infant sister Ada. John is survived by his wife, June Metz of Osage; a daughter, Tamara Washington and husband Joe of Lakeville, Minnesota; four sons: John P. Metz III and wife Joanne of Crescent, Captain Michael Metz of Houma, Louisiana, Shane Metz and wife Mary of Dike, and Logan Metz of Mason City; a sister Georgia Carter of Osage; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
