OBITUARY: James Holbrook Randlett, 1827-1904, Mitchell Co., Iowa [Mitchell Co. Press -- April 14, 1904] James Holbrook Randlett Mr. James Holbrook Randlett was born March 5, 1827, in Durham, Province of Quebec, Canada; and passed away at his home in Orchard, Iowa, April 4, 1904, aged 77 years. Mr. Randlett and Miss Hannah Jackman were united in marriage November 24, 1857, in Kingsey, Province of Quebec. This union was blessed with four children, Mrs. Gilman Randlett of Kenemore, N.D., Mrs. Mary Crawford of Orchard, Iowa, Mrs. Alice Sargent, who passed away two years ago, and Mr. Gordon Randlett, of Fargo, N.D. There are eleven grandchildren. Miss Ida Sargent a granddaughter has been a comfort and strong staff to Mr. and Mrs. Randlett in their declining years. Mr. Randlett and family came to Iowa in 1878. He a was a successful farmer. He became a Christian in middle life. He was a member of the Orchard Congregational church and was interested in all lines of church work. His home was always open to prayer meetings and other religious gatherings. The influence of Mr. Randlett in his home led all his children to become followers of Christ. The funeral was held at the home in Orchard, April 6th, conducted by Rev. S.A. Martin. The interment took place in the Orchard cemetery.
