OBITUARY: Morris Edward Roberts, 1919-2002, Mitchell County, Iowa Morris Edward Roberts Morris Edward Roberts, 82, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Care Center, Osage, Iowa. He was born Sept. 7, 1919, in Lyle Township, to Merlin and Emma (Johnson) Roberts. He graduated from Austin High School in 1937. After graduation, he attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa from 1939 to 1940 and St. Olaf College in Northfield from 1941 to 1942. On April 3, 1942, he entered the United States Army, where he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater operations during World War II. Following his discharge on Oct. 3, 1945, he returned to Minnesota where he farmed with his brother, LuVerne. After farming, Morris worked for businesses in Minneapolis and Owatonna until returning to Austin where he worked as a custodian at St. Mark's Lutheran Home until his retirement. He lived in his home in Mona, Iowa and spent winters in Austin until entering the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in St. Ansgar, Iowa on Sept. 8, 2000. He enjoyed helping his parents in their later years, fishing, traveling and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Mona Lutheran Church and the VFW Post 1216 of Austin. Survivors include brother, LuVerne Roberts, St. Ansgar, Iowa; sister, Jeanette Palys, Austin; nieces, nephews and cousins. His parents and a sister, Edith Hughes, preceded him in death. Services were held on Wednesday, at Mona Lutheran Church in Mona, Iowa with Rev. Lydia Mittag officiating. Interment was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Austin, with military honors by the VFW Post 1216 and American Legion Post 91. Worlein Funeral Home, Austin, Minn., was in charge of arrangements.
