She passed away at her home in Osage, Iowa on May 4, 1906. In 1852 she came with a brother to America and located in Cleveland, Ohio. There she was united in marriage on June 11, 1853 to Peter Lohr, who had immigrated the year previous to her coming. They had been reared in the same village and had grown to young manhood and young womanhood together. After their marriage they remained for a time in Cleveland, then after two years residence in Norwalk, Ohio, they came in May 1856, to Osage, Iowa. Here they made their home until the death summons came and here they reared their family to honorable estate. For 50 years Mrs. Lohr lived on the same lot, loved and respected by the neighbors who have come and gone. In the prosperous business that her husband built up, in the sacrifices and hardships endured in the high standard of honor, characterizing the family, and in the ideals for education of their children, Mrs. Lohr bore her full share. She was distinctly a homemaker, industrious, economical, simple in her tastes and genuinely appreciative of kindnesses. She enjoyed her little garden and particularly the beautiful flowers that she knew so well how to cultivate. She was a devoted wife, a good, true mother, who found her joy not to society, though she knew how to love and appreciate her friends, but in the bosom of her family, sacrificing for their comfort and welfare. She was too, a woman of prayer and faith and knew how to trust in God, who was her refuge and strength. For years she had been a member of the German Presbyterian church and at the time of her death was a member of the church located 10 miles southwest of Osage, whose services she attended when her health would permit. After nearly a half century's journeying together her husband passed away about four years ago and a little more than a year ago she was called to part with her eldest son. These were heavy blows, but her faith sustained her. Four sons: George C. and Charles S. both of Estelline, South Dakota; Frank S. of Osage, and Fredrick W. of Sioux City, Iowa, remain, also one daughter, Amelia C., who has been her mother's companion. She also leaves 8 grandchildren, one brother, John Apel of Muscatine, Iowa, and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Kneisel of Vermillion, Ohio, and Mrs. Kate Kneisel of Rudd, Iowa. The funeral service was held at her late home in Osage, conducted by an old friend of the family, Rev. D. I. Coon of Waverly, Iowa and her pastor Rev. A. E. Boell and the body was taken to the Osage Cemetery for burial.
