J. Norby Soldier, Ia.—Special: Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Norby were surprised last Sunday when nearly 125 people gathered at the Soldier Valley Lutheran church to honor them on their 50th wedding anniversary. A program consisted of talks by Rev. Mr. Tween and Warren Strain. After the program and lunch a gift of silver was presented Mr. and Mrs. Norby. Mr. and Mrs. Norby were married on April 8, 1886 at the Jens Severson farm by rev. H. C. Holm of Kanawha. Both were born in Urskog, Norway. Mrs. Norby will be 70 in August and Mr. Norby will be 77 in May. They have three daughters, Mrs. Victor M. Gerard of Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. Chris Lund of Moorhead and Mrs. Orren Rude of Soldier. They arrived in Soldier from Norway in 1882. COUPLE WED FIFTY YEARS Mr. and Mrs. Jim Norby were surprised Sunday when nearly 125 people gathered at the Soldier Valley Lutheran church to honor them on their fiftieth wedding anniversary. The people had all assembled in the basement before the pioneer couple were asked to come to the church. The afternoon that followed was indeed a happy one for this well known couple. A program followed which consisted of talks by Rev. Tweet and Warren Strain and a solo by Gladys Evenson, who sang “Silver Threads Among the Gold”. She was accompanied on the piano by Candace Skow. After the program and lunch a gift of silver was presented Mr. and Mrs. Norby. Mr. and Mrs. Norby were married on April 8, 1886 at the Jens Severson farm by the Rev. H. C. Holm of Kanawha.
