Lee on Long Jaunt to Texas _______________ By Flora M. Colby (Special Correspondent of The Journal) Onawa, Ia.—Among the sturdy pioneers of Onawa and Monona county are Mr. and Mrs. Ole K. Lee, who soon will celebrate the 62d anniversary of their marriage day. Mr. Lee was born in Norway, July 27, 1848, and his wife also was born in Norway, March 6, 1847. Mr. Lee, with his parents, arrived in Wisconsin in 1853, and Mrs. Lee with her parents arrived in the same county that year. They lived in Wisconsin until their marriage, December 27, 1868, when they came to Monona county, in 1870, settling on a farm near Soldier. In 1895 they moved into Mapleton, Ia., living there until 1912, when they came to Onawa. In the fall of 1918 they moved to McAllen, Tx., where they resided until 1936, when they returned to Onawa, to the home of their daughter, Mrs. Clara Carlson. Mr. and Mrs. Lee were the parents of nine children but only four daughters now are living, Mrs. Sadie Kenyon, Sioux City, Ia.; Mrs. Emma Fritzy, Los Angeles, Cal.; Mrs. Clara Carlson, Onawa, and Mrs. Josephine Whitehead, Pharr, Tex. The couple having lived in the south, still had a yearning to return again to the Rio Grande valley, so lately they again packed their trunks and left for the south, to make their home with Mrs. Whitehead, whose husband, Col. B. G. Whitehead, editor of the Rio Grande Valley Sun, Pharr, recently died.
