He had been ill for some time, having spent several days in the Denison hospital prior to coming home for a few days and then going on to Sioux City. Mr. Amunson was born and reared in the Soldier community, having farmed east of town most of his life. He had always been active in church affairs and township activities. Funeral services will be held at the Soldier Lutheran (South) Church this Thursday, May 2 at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Maynard Moen will give the sermon. Miss Margaret Evenson will be at the organ and a quartet consisting of Mrs. Charles Dommer Jr., Mrs. Ivan Gibbs, Gordon Foss and Clayton Swenson will sing “Safe In The Arms of Jesus” and “I Know Of A Sleep in Jesus Name.” Interment will be in Soldier Valley cemetery under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home of Soldier. Pallbearers will be Leonard, Kenneth, Keith and Dale Amunson, Reuben Hanson and Richard Flynn, all grandsons. Olaf Amunson, son of Arndt Amunson and Andrena Severson, was born on a farm east of Soldier on February 16, 1882 and passed away at Sioux City on April 29, 1963 at the age of 81 years, 2 months and 13 days. He was baptized and confirmed in the Soldier Lutheran (South) Church and grew up in the Soldier community, living here his entire life. On September 20, 1906 he was united in marraige(sic) to Honora Clemon at the south church. Left to mourn his passing are the widow; five sons, Kermit of Ute and Lowell, Merrill, Clifford and Milton all of Soldier; four daughters, Verona (Mrs. Wallace Hanson) of Sioux City, Evelyn (Mrs. Paul Flynn) of Ute, Elaine Norby of Soldier and Loreen (Mrs. Vernon York) of Mapleton; one sister, Mrs. Amelia Ulven of Onawa; 34 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, and a host of other relative and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Leo in World War II, two sisters, Mathilda and Annie and three brothers, Casper and two dying in infancy.
