He was taken to the hospital late in October after being confined there at different times as the spells would hit him. At times he would improve sufficiently to return to his work with the county. Hilmer was industrious and steady and was praised by the county as one of their best road men, having held that job for the past 25 years. He was a good neighbor and friend and will be missed greatly by his relatives and friends. Funeral services were held from Soldier Lutheran Church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Hoff in charge. Burial was in Soldier Valley cemetery in charge of Ralph Oldham. Hilmer Berg, son of Boleta and Sever Berg, was born in Moorhead, Iowa May 6, 1895. He was baptized and confirmed in the Norwegian Lutheran Church. On July 15, 1915 he was united to Gunda Nordaker. To this union eight children were born, one, Agnes Smith, his oldest daughter, preceding him in death. They settled on a farm near Soldier and lived there until 1917 when they moved to South Dakota where they farmed for four years. Then they moved back to Soldier where they have made their home since. For the last 25 years Mr. Berg has been employed by the county doing road work. For the past two years he was afflicted with heart trouble and on October 28 was taken seriously ill and taken to the Deering hospital in Onawa where he passed away away(sic) early Saturday morning, December 1, 1945.
