Briggs 1994 Irene G. Briggs, 81, of Soldier, Iowa, died Thursday, March 10, 1994, at the Elmwood Care Centre, Onawa, Iowa. Mrs. Briggs was born February 7, 1913 to Hans N. and Anna (Jensen) Christensen in Soldier. She graduated from high school and attended 1 year of nurse’s training. She was a lifelong resident of Soldier except for approximately one and a half years during World War II when she lived with her mother in Ames, Iowa. On December 12, 1960, she married Fred Briggs. They owned and operated the Harness Drug Store in Soldier until just a few years ago. She was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church and a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband, Fred; two nieces, Isabel Pesek and Kathryn Toresdahl, both of Ames, Iowa and several grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Orlando (Bob) Nordaker, two infant daughters, two brothers, Nels and Anton; and two sisters, Marion Dorothy and Emma Groom. Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 1994, at the Soldier Lutheran Church at Soldier with Rev. Thomas R. Hagen officiating. The organist, Mrs. Ivan Gibbs, played “In the Garden” and “The Old Rugged Cross”. Casket bearers were Wilbur Jensen, Bernard Thoreson, Arnold Melby, Maynard Swenson, Gordon Swenson, and Gordon Clemon. Interment was in Jordan Township Cemetery at Soldier with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home of Soldier.
