Martin Britton
Called Suddenly                               (From the collection of Vivian 
Norby Andersen)

	Martin O. Britton, 87, former Soldier business man and farmer, passed 
away peacefully at his home in Soldier Friday, May 1.  He had lie(sic) down on 
the davenport to take a nap and it was when Mrs. Britton tried to awaken him 
that she discovered that he had passed away, apparently  of a heart attack.
	Martin farmed for many years northeast of Soldier and owned and 
operated the Soldier Elevator before selling out to his son, Arnold, and 
Lawrence Major.  He was a noted hog buyer and shipped thousands of hogs to the 
major markets.
	Funeral services were held at Soldier Lutheran Church Monday, May 4 at 
10:30 a.m. with Pastor Arnold Mathisen officiating.  Mrs. Bernard Berens was 
organist and sang “Nearer My God To Thee”.  Mrs. Harry Andersen was organist.
	Interment was in Soldier Valley cemetery under the direction of 
Pearson Funeral Home of Soldier.  Bearers were Duane Mordhorst, George 
Britton, Jr., Gary Britton, Jorome(sic) Mordhorst, Lowell Hinricksen and Jim 
DeLashmutt.

		MARTIN O. BRITTON

	Martin O. Britton, 87, Soldier, Iowa, died Friday, May 1, 1970 at his 
home in Soldier.  He was born July 14, 1882 in Soldier Twp., the son of Ole O. 
and Regina Ovlien Britton.  On September 25, 1905 he married Augusta Amunson 
at Granite Falls, Minnesota.
	
	He is survived by his wife, Augusta of Soldier, three sons, Arnold of 
Soldier, Marvin of Soldier, and George of Martelle, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. 
Herbert (Helen) Mordhorst of Ute, and Mrs. Harry (Ruby) Nelsen of Algonquin, 
Ill.; 18 grandchildren; and 36 great grandchildren.
