Clarence was born July 29, 1898 at Soldier, the son of Charles and Etta Edwards Burke. July 4, 1919 he was united in marriage with Mabel Bartholomew at Castana. To this union a son and three daughters were born. He had been in the grocery business in Turin for the past 40 years, retiring a short time ago. Prior to that time he had been a resident of the Anthon community for several years. He was a member of the Turin Methodist Church, Hillcrest Lodge No. 648 A.F.& A.M. One of his hobbies was bowling, a sport in which he engaged for several years. Survivors include his wife, Mabel of Turin; a son, Ronald of Castana; three daughters, Mrs. Gene (Charlotte) Zortman of Onawa, Mrs. Jack (Eunice) Wahlke of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Doyle (Marilyn) Kratz of Marysville, Calif.; three brothers, Harry, Donald and Milford of California; five sisters, Mrs. Cora Norby of Mapleton, Mrs. Florence Thoreson of Sioux City, Mrs. Chas. (Olive) Newman of Smithland, Mrs. Raleigh (Bertha) Kendall of Toledo, Iowa and Mrs. Ralph (Mildred) of San Gabriel, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, February 9 at the Turin United Methodist Church with Rev. Everett Major officiating. Clara Kelley was organist and played (Mary Our Virgin All Loving” by Gene Zortman before the service and “How Great Thou Art” during the service. Honorary bearers were Merrill Johnson, Howard Hunt, John Wagner, William Larimore, and Leonard Crosgrove. Casket bearers were Merrill Struble, Harold Ravnsborg, Lloyd Crosgrove, Sam Mann, Wilson Gruber and Lawrence Christensen. Interment was in Belvidere Cemetery at Turin under the direction of Pearson funeral home of Onawa.
