N. Christensen Called by Death Hans N. Christensen was born at Laurop, Denmark, July 14, 1864. Died at his home in Soldier, March 22, 1930, after an illness of six weeks with heart complications, at the age of 65 years, 8 months and 8 days. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Denmark. Was married to Miss Anna M. Jensen in Monona County, Iowa, February 7, 1891. To this union was born 5 children, one of whom Nels J. died April 14, 1922 from effects of being gassed in the World War. The widow, Mrs. Anna Christensen and following children survive: Anton of Ames, Iowa, Mrs. Mark Dorothy and Mrs. Wayne Groom of Ute, Iowa and Irene of Soldier. Mrs. Christensen was a pioneer of this county settling in Jordan Township 29 years ago where he farmed until he moved to Soldier in 1908 to enter the hardware business. Mr. Christensen retired from active business in 1915 having sold his interest to his son Anton. Since that time he has been very active in municipal affairs, being Mayor of Soldier the past 4 years and until the time of his death. Much credit for the municipal improvements of the town is due to his untiring efforts and keen business judgment. Mrs. Christensen has served as a stockholder, director and past 10 years as vice-president of the Soldier Valley Savings Bank, being a charter member of the bank at its inception in 1906. His splendid counsel as a member of the advisory Board of Directors was always welcome and will be sorely missed. He was a member of the Soldier Lutheran church of Soldier and a member of the Danish Brotherhood. May his soul rest in peace. Funeral services were held at the church in Soldier Monday afternoon. Rev. Hoifjeld conducting the services. The remains were laid to rest in the Jordan cemetery. All business places closed for the funeral services. Among the floral offerings was a large wreath from the business men of Soldier. The pall bearers were J. C. Johnson, John Tromstrom, N. P. Anderson, Marius Anderson, E. G. Jones and Ole G. Norby. The funeral was one of the largest ever held from the Soldier church. An exceptionally large number of old friends attending from the vicinity of his old home in Jordan Township.
