Funeral services were held at the Christian Church in Ute Monday, Feb. 8 at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Robert Boseck officiated. Burial was in St. Clair cemetery under the direction of Walter funeral home. Pallbearers were Arthur Gibbs, John Bretthauer, Clarence Thompson, Floyd Shipley, James Flynn and John Dickinson. Bertha (Riddle) Conger, daughter of Charles and Anna Riddle, was born January 19, 1899 in Ohio. In 1901 she came with her parents to Monona county near Ute, where she resided until her marriage to Ward Conger on October 28, 1922 at Pender, Nebr. She was a very devoted wife and was highly respected by all who knew her. After her marriage she and her husband resided in the Soldier community for a time before going to Sioux City. They lived there eight years where they were both employed by the Chamber of Commerce. The past 20 years Mr. and Mrs. Conger have worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and their work took them to many parts of the country. Mrs. Conger was a member of the Christian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary at Ute. She departed this life on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1960 at Portland, Oregon after a short illness at the age of 61 years and 14 days. Survivors include the husband, Ward of Portland, two sisters, Mrs. Harry (Gladys) Allen of Roundup, Montana and Mrs. Wilmer (Mary) Knutson of Soldier; two brothers, Brady Riddle of Mapleton and Fred Riddle of Castana; besides a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.
