She had attended the funeral of Pfc. Delmer Ferris at Mapleton and was at the cemetery in Ute when she became ill. She died shortly after arriving at the doctor’s office. Mrs. Dergans was a former teacher at Soldier and lived here most of her life. Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ute at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. A. H. Oacken of Mapleton officiating. The Rosary was recited at 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Walter Funeral Home in Ute. Mrs. Dergans, the former Ella Flynn, was born April 13, 1888 at Charter Oak and moved with her parents to Soldier in March, 1892. In 1926 she moved to Ute where she operated a meat market. She was married to Joe Dergans at Ute on February 22, 1933. In 1938 they moved to the farm near soldier. She attended the State College of Iowa at Cedar Falls and the University of Chicago. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ute and its altar society, the auxiliary of the Veterans of World War 1 and the American Legion Auxiliary of Soldier. Survivors include the widower and two sisters, Miss Frances Flynn of South Bend, Ind., and Mrs. Walter Flevin of Greenfield, Mass.
