We regret that this obituary of Mr. Erickson had to be delayed another week on this account. Nels Erickson was born in Valders, Norway, on Sept. 17, 1866 and came to American with his parents in 1967, locating near Madison, Wisconsin where they lived one year, moving from there to near Benson, Minn. where a home was established on a homestead for two years, moving from there to near Ft. Dodge, Iowa, living there four years, coming to Soldier, Monona County, in Oct. 1876 where he has lived practically the remainder of his lifetime, always farming. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Moen of Canton, S.D. in 1891. To this union 7 children were born, 6 of whom survive with their mother to mourn the loss of a dutiful and loving husband and father. One daughter having been called to the great unknown after she attained young womanhood. The surviving children are Mergena, Clara, Gertrude, Palma, Edwin and Elmer, all of Soldier, also one grandchild. He is also survived by two brother Ole C. Erickson of Mapleton, Iowa, and Julius Erickson of Soldier, and two sisters, Mrs. Olius Clemon and Mrs. Knud Olson, both of Soldier. He was a member of the Norwegian Lutheran church, having been baptised and confirmed in this faith in his youth. He passed away in the Lutheran Hospital Sioux City, Iowa where he was taken for treatment some weeks prior to hisde ath(sic), which occurred on Nov. 9th, 1929. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Hoifjeld, pastor of the Soldier Lutheran Church, with short services at the home, and full services at the town church, with interment in the Lutheran cemetery at the church south of town.
