He was the father of Mrs. Arnold Britton of Soldier. Funeral services were held at the Moorhead Christian Church at 2:00 o’clock Tuesday, August 19 with Rev. Joel Boone officiating. Burial was in Spring Valley cemetery under the direction of Oldham funeral Home of Soldier. George Gardner, son of the late John and Emma Wyatt Gardner, was born January 15, 1876 at the farm home just east of Moorhead where he had resided all of His life. He passed away August 16, 1958 at St. Joseph hospital in Omaha after a short illness, at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 1 day. He was united in marriage to Minnie Wall at Denison May 11, 1904. The home was blessed with 10 children, two of whom preceded him in death, Mrs. Lucile Tripp and Donald Earl. Surviving are his beloved wife and eight children: Mrs. Minnie Leythan, Woodbine, Mrs. Cecil Larson and Mrs. Pearl Leythan of Omaha, Mrs. Florence Britton of Soldier, Mrs. Irene Schelm of Mapleton, Mrs. Evelyn Mathews, Wichita, Kans., Mrs. Erma Bowman, Huntsville, Ala., and Dale of Moorhead. Also 25 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mabel Bowen of Kansas City, Mo. And many other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by his three brothers, Frank, John and Richard, and one sister, Martha. All his life he believed in God and tried to live according to the teachings of Christ. In obedience to the commandment of Christ, he was buried with him in baptism, believing in the doctrines of the Christian church. He was a devoted husband and father, and second to his family was his love and concern for all living things. One of his main interests in farming was his cattle. The Gardners observed their golden wedding anniversary May 11, 1954.
