Gibbs, 84, passed away Thursday, March 17 at the Elmwood Nursing Home in Onawa after a long illness. He had made his home in Soldier for many years, following his retirement from the farm east of Soldier. Funeral services were held Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Ute at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. R. E. Nemmers officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery at Ute under the direction of the Walter Funeral Home. Mr. Gibbs was born April 23, 1881 in Soldier and married Thrasa Miller on June 9, 1909 at Ute. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He had spent his entire lifetime in the Soldier and Ute areas and was a farm up until he retired. Survivors include the widow, two daughters, Mrs. Glenn Olson of Mapleton and Mrs. Milford Nordaker of Ute; one son, Vernon of Boone; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Basil Gibbs, John Dickinson, Lester Nordaker, Phillip Gibbs, Tom Hanigan and Ray Pithan.
