Gibbs, 47 who farmed a few miles east of Soldier. Ervin had gone to the pasture that morning to look after his cattle and became ill with chest pains. A doctor was called and he taken immediately to the Onawa hospital. Arriving there he was placed in a wheel chair and his wife was taking him to his room when he died suddenly. A few days prior to his attack he had been stung by a bee and required medical attention, but it is not believed this contributed to his death. Funeral services were held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ute. Pastor E. T. Lang officiated. Interment was in St. Clair cemetery at Ute under the direction of Walter Funeral Home. Bearers were Martin Kiepe, Ervin Kiepe, Joseph Carritt, Milford Nordaker, Louis Sanders and Edward Schelm. Graveside military rites were conducted by American Legion Aaby Post 442 of Ute. Ervin Wayne Gibbs, the son of Solon and Anna Gibbs, was born December 11, 1919 near Soldier. He lived in the Soldier and Ute communities his entire life and at the time of his death farmed four miles east of Soldier. He graduated from Ute high school in 1938 and later attended Junior College at Sheldon. He was a member of the American Legion Post 442 at Ute and was a past commander of the post. He had been a member of the Ute school board and was a member of the Triple A board for several years. He took an active part in all civic activities. He married Grace Hughes August 5, 1944 at Muskogee, Okla. One son and two daughters were born to this union. Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Barbara and Georgia of Ute; a son, Wayne, currently stationed in Vietnam as a member of the U. S. Marines (Wayne arrived by plane the last of the week to attend his father’s funeral); mother, Anna of Onawa; a sister, Mrs. Marty Schlensig of Dunlap; and three brothers, Herbert and Ivan of Ute and Basil of Soldier.
