Gran, 76, of Charter Oak and resident of the Soldier community most of his life, passed away Saturday, April 6 after a long illness. Funeral services were held at Soldier Lutheran Church Monday at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Maynard Moen officiating. Miss Margaret Evenson was at the organ. Mrs. Charles Dommer, Jr. was soloist and sang “In The Garden” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” Interment was in Soldier Valley cemetery under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home of Soldier. Pallbearers were Arnold Amundson, Roy Lindley, Harry Andersen, Elmer Thies, Wilbur Jensen and Lynn Carritt. Mr. Gran was born and raised in the Soldier community and farmed here until he retired four years ago and moved to Charter Oak. Christian C. Gran was born at Soldier, Iowa April 2, 1887 and passed away at his home in Charter Oak April 6, 1963 after a long illness. He grew to manhood in the Soldier vicinity. He was baptized and confirmed at Soldier Lutheran church. He was married to Maude Braden at Onawa on September 6, 1911. To this union two sons and six daughters were born. Survivors include the widow; two sons, Merrill of Soldier and Roy of Ute; five daughters, Miss Lillian Gran of Soldier, Mrs. Edna Stockfleth of Denison, Mrs. Dorothy Jahn of Ft. Collins, Colo., Mrs. Beulah Jesperson of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mrs. Nadine Friedrichs of Charter Oak; also several grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Ruth Carroll.
