He suffered a stroke on Monday morning and was taken to the Onawa hospital. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 27 at the Soldier Lutheran Church. Pastor Harry C. Sorensen officiated. Russell Mann of Cherokee sang “Just As I Am” and “Beyond The Sunset”, accompanied at the organ by Miss Margaret Evenson. Interment was in Soldier Valley Cemetery. Member of Soldier Valley Post 462 of the American Legion attended the service in a group and conducted military rites at the cemetery under the direction of Gale Lee, Commander. Arrangements were by Pearson Funeral Home of Soldier. Martin Hanson was born January 17, 1912 at Vikesund, Norway, a son of Chris and Inga Hanson, and died at the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa on Wednesday, June 24, 1964 at the age of 52 years, 5 months and 7 days. Death came unexpectedly as he had been in good health until entering the hospital on Tuesday of that week. Martin came to America with his parents when he was one year of age and had lived in the Soldier community since that time. He was single. He was an employee of the Monona County Engineers Department. Mr. Hanson was a veteran of world War 2 where he served in the U. S. Army from November 1942 until November 1945. He was a member of the Soldier Valley Legion Post No. 462 of Soldier and was also a member of Soldier Lutheran Church. Survivors include three brothers, Koore, of Salem, Oregon; Elvin of Castana, and Norman H. of Moorhead; four sisters, Mrs. Charles Anderson (Edith) of Omaha, Nebr., Mrs. Dale Percy (Lillian) of Sioux City, Mrs. Carl Wagner (Doris) of Turin, and Mrs. Charles Kerr (Bernice) of Lexington Park, Maryland; and other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Hans and Harold.
