Harris, a son of Amund and Jennie Harris, was born September 11, 1888 at Soldier, Iowa and passed from this life at a nursing home in Onawa after several weeks of failing health. He had been a patient in the hospital and a resident at the home for the past two months. Death came on Tuesday morning, May 19, 1964 at the age of 75 years, 8 months and 8 days. He was married to Guyda Blowers on Dec. 21, 1910. She died in 1918. He married Emma Fromke on Jan. 11, 1922. She died in 1954. He had been a resident of Onawa the past 25 years since his retirement from farming in the Soldier community in 1939. Early in life he accepted Christ and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church at Soldier. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Don Hall of Onawa; a son, Ivan Harris of Sioux City; two step-sons, Alva Gross and Phillip Gross of Sioux City; two sisters, Mrs. Alma Harris of Onawa and Mrs. Hazel Vanscoy of Denver; four brothers, Sol of Los Angeles, Engvold of Denver, Guy of Soldier and Elmer of Salem, Oregon. There are six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ole and a sister, Tillie, and three infant children. The funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Pearson Funeral Chapel in Onawa. Miss Connie Johnson was the organist. At 2:30 P.M. a service was held at the Lutheran church in Soldier. Mrs. Norman C. Hanson sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Safe in The Arms of Jesus”, accompanied by Mrs. Harry Andersen. Pastor Harry Sorensen of Soldier conducted the service. Casket bearers were Arthur Olson, Chris Steen, George and Marvel Lee, Raymond McNeill and Derwin House. Interment was in the church cemetery south of Soldier.
