Hilda Ness Is
Called By Death                          (From the collection of Vivian Norby

	Mrs. Hilda C. Ness, 81, lifelong resident of the Soldier community 
died Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Olaf Olson after a long 
illness.  She had been cared for by the Olson for many years and they did 
everything possible at all times to make her last years as enjoyable as 
possible.
	Funeral services will be held at Soldier Lutheran Church this Thursday 
at 2:00 o’clock with Pastor Maynard Moen officiating.  Burial will be in 
soldier Valley cemetery under the direction of Pearson Funeral Home of 
Soldier.  Pallbearers will be Art Olson, Ralph Oldham, Harold Ulven, Roy 
Severson, John Dickinson and Lowell Amunson.
	Hilda Ness, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kristian Norby, was born at 
Soldier, Iowa, April 23, 1880.  She resided here her entire life and was 
baptized and confirmed in Soldier Lutheran Church and remained a faithful 
member.
	She passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ethel Olson on 
Tuesday, January 9, 1961 at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 16 days.
	On August 8, 1900 she was united in marriage to Ole H. Harris and 
later married Peter O. Ness on November 11, 1918 in Omaha.  Mr. Ness died in 
1949.
	Survivors in addition to Mrs. Olson, include another daughter, Mrs. 
Carl N. Sunner of Eagle Grove; a son, Harry C. Harris of Whittier, California; 
a stepson, Allen Ness of Creston; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
	She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant son, 
two brothers, Martin and Ole Norby and two sisters Emily and Nettie.
